Competition 6: YOUTH CHOIRS of no more than 60 voices, mixed or equal voice, 16-25 years of age inclusive on the day of the competition. Competition to take place THURSDAY 8 July Two contrasting items: (a) Either: a choral arrangement of a traditional folk song of the competing choir's own country, sung in any language. Or: a 20th/21st century original composition by any composer, sung in any language. (b) A contrasting item of the competing choir's own choice. The total duration of (a) and (b) must not exceed 9 minutes. First Prize: International Trophy and £650; Second £350; Third £220 Competition 7: SENIOR CHILDREN'S CHOIRS of no more than 60 voices, mixed or equal voice, 18 years of age and under on the day of the competition. Competition to take place WEDNESDAY 7 July Two contrasting items: (a) Either: a choral arrangement of a traditional folk song of the competing choir's own country, sung in any language. Or: a 20th/21st century original composition by a composer of the competing choir's own country, sung in any language. (b) A contrasting item of the competing choir's own choice. First Prize: International Trophy and £550; Second £325; Third £200 Competition 8: JUNIOR CHILDREN'S CHOIRS of no more than 60 voices, 13 years of age and under on the day of the competition. Competition to take place THURSDAY 8 July (a) I will sing with the Spirit John Rutter (Two part version)*+ The total duration of the two chosen pieces must not exceed 7 minutes. First Prize: International Trophy and £440; Second £220; Third £110 *Please see page 12 of this syllabus for details of how to obtain copies of this piece. + Choirs may translate this piece into any language, though specific permission must be obtained from the Eisteddfod Office, and a copy of the translation as it is to be used in the musical score must be sent for approval by the Executive Director by 1 February 2010 at the latest. All choirs must submit a recent recording from the last 6 months with their application form. This must be on CD, DVD or as an MP3 file. The recorded music need not include your competition items, but must be suitable for each competition application. Please note that pieces may not be repeated in different competitions (excepting Choir of the World). PLEASE NOTE: Choirs are permitted to apply for more than one competition, provided that they comply with the different conditions relating to each individual competition. |
